What’s new in fall decor? What are the trends that will make your decor a real cocoon? Let’s talk colors, smells and – something that’s coming back into fashion – quilts.
Halloween is coming and we all know it: the cold is back for good, we close the windows and create a cozy nest for the months to come. For those who missed it, last year I wrote an article on the essentials of a cocooning decor , which gives the basics of a comforting home. Read it or reread it: the essentials will always be essential!
Today, we're talking about what's in this fall. More specifically: what colors are trending, what scents should fill your home, and what antique fabric is coming back into fashion (no suspense: quilts).
Green, rust, pink and pastels
Velvet sofas, cushions, wall coverings, bedding, various accessories: this fall, the decor is featuring green (especially), rust, pink and pastels. First, green, omnipresent – which can almost be called the new gray! The trendy shade: forest green, rich and deep, which recalls nature and soothes the soul. We also find many rust-colored objects, which bring warmth and elegance. In another register, more fanciful and childish, pink and pastels are becoming trendy again. As gray days approach, why not infuse a little cheerfulness into our decor! Finally, since the major color companies recently unveiled their 2025 choices, I wanted to share my favorite: Cinnamon Slate (2113-40) by Benjamin Moore, a mix of brown and plum that is simply wow! I am immediately looking for a wall to paint…

Scents of balsam fir – and bergamot
You smell it like me, the scent of dead leaves… Hmmmm! By the way, how come no candle smells like dead leaves? Oops! To my great surprise, they do exist, here is an example . I haven’t tested it, but I promise myself to do so this year (the reviews are excellent, I’ll get back to you). In any case, when it comes time to lock yourself away at home for the next five or six months, good scents are definitely welcome. Candles, incense, room fragrances, essential oils: the means don’t matter, it’s the result that counts. What are the seasonal scents? Dans un jardin offers Bonjour l’automne (juniper berries, cedar, amber, spices), Forêt nordique (balsam fir, cedar wood, foliage) and Bergamote & thé bleu (bergamot, tea leaves, jasmine, cedar). Soya & Co is offering a “Fall Collection” set that includes three candles: Apple, Pumpkin & Orange, Smoked Birch & Pine, and Cedar & Palo Santo. At Zone, you’ll find a full line ofFrasier Fir products (candles, oils, and room fragrances) that smell like pine, cedar, and sandalwood.
The return of the quilt
A few years ago, knitting experienced a resurgence in popularity. What other ancestral textile art is now emerging from mothballs? Quilting, a blanket filled with stuffing that our grandmothers and great-grandmothers knew how to sew. You can find it in several well-known stores, but also more artisanal versions on Etsy and Instagram (like those of my friend Myriam LeBlanc , who has made it more than a hobby). The beauty of quilting lies in its patterns – geometric or patchwork – which always have something original. Patterns are also available for cheap (see the lion's head below!) for those who are less artistic. In short, quilting is warm, it is unique, it is fashionable, and you can pass it on to your descendants… Thanks to my boyfriend for keeping his family's!
