Located in Hiroshima Prefecture, high up through the trees, the Ribbon Chapel was designed by architect Hiroshi Nakamura as a venue for weddings.
The two ribbons converging together at the top signify the union of two people, the symbol of marriage.
The architect wanted to demonstrate by creating this building that it was possible architecturally to embody the act of marriage. A single spiral staircase would be unstable. That is why a second one was necessary, like a union where one supports the other.
The two spirals connect at the top to form a single ribbon.
