Located in Hiroshima Province, elevated through the trees, the Ribbon Chapel was designed by architect Hiroshi Nakamura as a place to celebrate weddings.
The two ribbons that converge together at the top signify the union of two people, the symbol of marriage.
The architect wanted to demonstrate by creating this building that it was architecturally possible to embody the act of marriage. A single spiral staircase would be unstable. This is why a second was necessary, like a union where one supports the other.
The two spirals connect at the top to form a single ribbon.
